The grades of these materials are classified on the basis of the chemistry of carbon steel. For instance, a medium carbon grade would be C45 Plate Material , whose carbon content ranges between 0.4% to 0.5% of its total weight. Unlike some grades, this alloy proves itself useful in general engineering applications. Medium carbon steels like this offer moderate strength.
