Steels designated with the letter P are low alloy steels whose chemical composition includes Chromium. The presence of chromium in the chemistry of the alloy accentuates the hardness and toughness properties of the P20 Steel Plate. As a tool steel grade, the characteristic of the alloy is its moderate strength that is useful in various applications. The material is so versatile that its hardness is put to use in tooling applications in addition to casting dies for zinc. Another common use of the P20 Mould Steel Foil is in the production of plastic injection mold cavities. Generally, this tool steel grade is available in a pre-hardened condition. In this condition, the hardness property of the alloy is valued to be as high as 300 HBW. In order to improve the hardness of the material, manufacturers may use either a nitriding or carburizing process on the P20 Mold Steel Hot Rolled Plates. Though these alloys are typically utilized in a carburized condition. During carburization, the alloy is heated in the presence of a carbon rich source. These sources could vary. In a typical situation, the AISI P20 Coils could be heat treated in the presence of either carbon monoxide or charcoal, both sources have an abundance of carbon atoms in their structures. The deposition of carbon atoms on the surface layer will be absorbed by the alloy of the P20 High Hard Steel Shim Sheet. This in turn will increase its hardness making it tough and more durable.
