Alloys that generally contain a higher content of chromium tend to be resilient to the effects of corrosion by oxidation. Oxidation is a process where the oxygen from the air reacts with the metal to form oxides. Some alloys that have a lower content of chromium tend to be more vulnerable to corrosion, as the absence of chromium on the surface of the component leads to rapid decay. However, this is not the case with the Nicr 80/20 Heating Resistance Strip . By chemically having altered a material to form an alloy with 20% chromium, the metal reacts on the surface to form chromium oxides. And as the content of chromium is already high in the chemical structure, the oxygen will only get attached to this element. Hence, the formation of a chromium oxide layer on the 80/20 Nickel Strip will prevent any further corrosion, making it an ideal candidate in those applications where alloys are prone to get corroded. And because the content of nickel in Nichrome 80/20 Strips is about 80%, the alloy is useful in elevated temperature applications. The alloy exhibits several properties that have been associated with nickel. For instance, the material is very malleable, which is why it is possible to beat it into components like foil, coils or even a Nichrome 80/20 Strip. The utility of this alloy is more suited in the manufacture of control resistors which may have several uses that include the adjustment of signal levels, reduction of current flow, bias active elements, or dividing voltages.
